DAILY UPDATE – 9/14 and 9/15/2023 – LOTTA SNOW
Sep 14 was cold and calm, 34F, with frost covering everything outside. Saw two deer early and Linda later saw a ferret near the storage sheds by our cabin. We had rain and some sun off and on all day, battery charging from the solar panels was much slower than usual. Sep 15 was our planned departure day. We had no idea a cold front was coming through with lots of snow until we woke up at 6:00 AM and saw these winter scenes:
We were concerned about the car slipping on the steep section after the gate. Fortunately the temp was 34F and after checking out the road we knew there was no ice. Shortly after the snow stopped at mid morning, the port a can gentleman came by on his Friday rounds and told us the road was fine. After that we quickly left and made it back home by the following evening.
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful property and enjoyed meeting many friendly and generous members and guests. Hopefully we will see you again next year. Thanks for letting us be your caretakers.
DAILY UPDATE -SNOW – 9/12/2023
Sunday night it rained hard. Monday morning was calm, 40F, with snow in the upper elevations. By mid morning much of it was gone with intermittent rain. In the afternoon temps went from mid 50’s down to 40F and a fair amount of small hail mixed with a bit of snow. Given the rapid weather changes it was no surprise that there were no cars in the trail parking lot in the afternoon, first time we’ve seen that. No wildlife today.
DAILY UPDATE – 9/10/2023
Another beautiful morning, a little cold at 36 degrees, no wind. Dan and Hannah Selner and their retriever Finn launched the boat early and caught several fish. Dan saw a moose on the road up here, but no wildlife sitings from us at the lake. Got cloudy later and windy with light rain off and on, we stayed indoors most of the day. Thanks to Linden’s family for giving us a big trout for dinner.
DAILY UPDATE- 9/9/2023
Nice morning, 42 deg, slight wind. Wind died down and some clouds came in later in the day. Linden Parker and family had 3 floaters on the lake at the same time and caught a lot of fish. In the evening we had an excellent lasagna dinner with the whole group at the caretaker cabin. No wildlife sitings today.
DAILY UPDATE – 9/8/2033
Another beautiful clear morning, 40F and windy again. Not as windy as yesterday though.
Saw a deer in the morning and in the afternoon Linda saw an 8 point buck but couldn’t get a picture. Lots of cars at the trailhead for Silver Dollar Lake, must be the clear weather and mild temperatures. The hikers are still well behaved, not seen any on the property since we’ve been here.
DAILY REPORT- 9/7/2023
This morning was clear, 40 deg and very windy. It’s hard to see on the photo but there were whitecaps over most the lake. It stayed windy until late afternoon. Probably why we didn’t see any wildlife today.
DAILY REPORT – 9/4/2023
Today was windy from the get go and stayed that way all day. Morning conditions 42 degrees and clear. Lake level is dropping a few inches every day.
Linda at the inlet. It’s easy to cross with the lower lake level, even two Texans can manage it. Labor Day activity – lots of hikers again, Brian said it was the most cars he’s ever seen parked along the road. We can usually hear the walkers down at the cabins but it was as so windy today we didn’t hear anything. No wildlife today other than the ubiquitous chipmunks.
DAILY REPORT – 9/3/2023
Beautiful sunset yesterday as the thunderstorms passed over the mountains.
This morning was partly cloudy, no wind, 41F. Lots of visitors and much fishing today but no fish caught. Weather has been all over the place – sunny, rainy, windy and changing quickly. After seeing one or two eagles earlier this week we haven’t spotted them at all this weekend. Hope your Labor Day weekend is great.
DAILY REPORT – 9/2/2023
This morning was partly cloudy, 44 degrees, no wind. Three deer were walking amongst the boats. Walked up to Silver Dollar Lake today, lots of friendly hikers and dogs to keep us company. Have a great Labor Day weekend.
DAILY REPORT – 9/1/2023
Good morning from Naylor Lake, 39 degrees, no wind. This is the first post from Linda and Bruce DeBolt, we look forward to being your caretakers for the next two weeks. We will do our best to live up to Suzanne’s very high standards. Yesterday afternoon Linda caught a rainbow, our first Naylor fish. Later we heard a pack of coyotes yipping at dusk. This morning we were treated to a simultaneous sunrise and moon set over the lake.
Daily Report – 8/31/2023
Good morning from Naylor Lake, 41 degrees, slight wind. Well guys this will be my last morning with you. As many of you know, I have plans to be out of the country but no worries I have arranged for some very capable and very friendly people to take care of you and the property.
Taking over for me on September 1st are my sister and brother in law, Linda and Bruce DeBolt. Meet Linda & Bruce.
Bill Schade and his wife will be up here for the last two weeks of September. Then Jessica Wallace will finish off the season the first week of October.
It has been a wonderful summer up here. Thank you to all of you for the privilege of being your Caretaker. Have a great winter.

Good morning from Naylor Lake, it was 41 degrees this morning, no wind, a gorgeous morning. Haven’t seen the eagle today?
Notice our three Merganser (I’m told) ducks taking an early morning swim across the Lake.
My time here is drawing to an end soon this season and I’m already getting nostalgic. I will introduce my replacement soon.
Have a great day.

Good morning from Naylor Lake, 48 degrees, no wind. One of the eagles was soaring over the cabin when I went out to take the picture this morning. It’s still perched in the very top of a tree near the cabins looking towards the lake.
Rain, rain go away…all day and night yesterday. The sun is starting to peak thru so there is some hope for today although the forecast doesn’t look good.
The Lake disappeared last evening.
Have a great day.

Sorry I haven’t posted for a few days. Totally forgot last Monday, it was 37 degrees that morning.
The Younger family were up here last weekend staying in the cabins, fishing from boats on the Lake. Ethel Younger sent me some beautiful pictures that she took.
My privilege to be in such a beautiful place. Thank you.

Wow, yesterday it was like Grand Central Station up here. Two cabins occupied Thursday night, all three occupied Friday/Saturday/Sunday with a big family group, ten other Members and guests. Great day with perfect weather!

Good morning from Naylor Lake, 47 degrees, light wind, so far. Notice in the picture that the rock island is just peaking above water level, so the level is coming down.
Yesterday was a momentous day. We got a new flagpole, a much higher one, I believe 6 ft. higher?
All of a sudden a hurricane force wind came off of the Lake!!! They prevailed!
Thank you to everyone for their efforts in this project.
Have a great day.

Good morning from Naylor Lake, 42 degrees, no wind. Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day, with little wind. We did have the late afternoon storm with rain which is becoming an everyday occurrence. Also had very low clouds drifting in from the east.
Wonderful visit yesterday with the Bucklands and Williams’s (my sister/brother -in-law), we’re all related by the marriage of Shannon Williams and Mark Buckland. Shannon stayed home with baby, Marley Anna Buckland.

One of my favorite areas on the trail not too far from the cabins.

We had another late afternoon storm yesterday with some hail. Rainbow not as spectacular as the day before but still…
Mike Shannon (my brother-in-law) and I put in a long work day yesterday at the cabins fixing various things… Door on Cabin 1, screen on the front window, hole in the side of Cabin 2, hanging fire extinguishers, caulking/priming/painting. He’s leaving tomorrow, will be sorry to see my helper go.
Have a great day .

Good morning from Naylor Lake, 47 degrees, sun is coming up, no wind, yet! The water level of the lake has receded quite a bit so it is now possible to walk along the trail on the south side. Had a small wind/rain storm blow through yesterday afternoon.
This week my sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Mike are visiting. Mike is a master carpenter who is happy to help with projects around the property. He’s been working on the old shed (#2) to try to delay it’s collapse. He found this inscription on the inside, right, upper corner (see below).
Have a great day.

Good morning from Naylor Lake. Absolutely beautiful today. 47 degrees at 7 am, no wind, crystal clear lake this morning. As I’m writing this at noon, the wind has picked up, 65 degrees.
The reason I’m posting so late today is because I had to go into Idaho Springs to run an errand. It’s the first time I’ve ever left the property on a weekend. It seems like half of Colorado is at Silver Dollar, either driving or hiking up and there are only two members with guests here on property! Some weekends this year there has been no one here.
Have a great day!

Good morning from Naylor Lake. Sunny, not a cloud in the sky, 57 degrees, some wind.
Yesterday I tried hiking the southern trail around the lake, but didn’t get far. The water has cut off access to the trail. I only tried it because the day before I noticed two of our fisherman were on the banks farther down. They must have climbed over the hill to get to the trail.
Our high yesterday was 75 (+/-) degrees!!
Can anyone tell me the name of this flower?
Have a great day🌞

Good morning from Naylor Lake. Another beautiful day, at 7 a.m. 47 degrees and no wind. At 8:20, 52 degrees, wind picking up.
Yesterday I hiked the north trail. It is in wonderful shape but you cannot get to the inlet because of the water level of the lake. The south trail is not passable to the inlet either. The lake is steadily rising with the snow melt.

Good morning from Naylor Lake. It’s beautiful this morning as you can see from the photo, sunny, no wind but it’s picking up, 44 degrees.
Mark Buckland asked if I would post daily/weekly weather or other happenings here at the lake. We got a late but quick start with a good crew to open. Three days later my daughter and granddaughter flew in for a 3 day visit, then the fish stocking, and July 4th. It has been a whirlwind but such fun. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone this year. My days off are Tuesday/Wednesday. Suzanne
